UHF RC system manual V0.09 Dec 13th 2008 ENGLISH HARDWARE TX UNIT, actual release version (5.4V written on the board) the TX unit is designed for 5.4V supply the TX needs only 3 signals : GND=shield, +supply=red, PPM=black. Damage will ocur if reverse powered or if supply higher than 25V Internal switchmode regulator makes it possible to run from 6-25V (always mounted from August 2008) HARDWARE RX UNIT: the RX unit is designed for 4-6V supply (4 -5 nimh cells or 5V BEC) full performance is expected in the 4-6 range supply current at 5V = 61mA RF senstivity = -110 dBm at 10% BER (or better) Damage will ocur if reverse powered and if supply higher than 9V. servo CH8 have the posibility of beeing configurered to feed servo signal and RSSI analog signal to OSD systems, to change from the default POWER and servo signal, two SMD resistors must be changed, it is advised not to feed supply current into CH8 due to the 2A max current of this SMD resistor. Two LED indicators located at each antenna connector show what antenna is the best right now. SOFTWARE FUNCTIONS TX How to use The bind bushbutton on the TX unit: 1 hold down bind button on TX 2 powerup the TX, select right model 3 power up receiver, make sure both antennas are connected and with in 20meter distance 4 wait 1 sec 5 release bind button on TX 6 test all servo functions on plane works and have ultra fast responce The receiver will store PPM repeat time and all servo positions for failsafe in the RX during the release of the button, while setting up a plane it is often needed to add or remove RC channels, this will offcource change the PPM repeat time, so a new binding will be needed, if ignored servo update speed will be slow and a bit jumpy, but you will still have controll of your plane, it is advised to only setup a plane while grounded ! The PPM input signal must have a constant frame repeat time, servo signals 6-8 can be transfered, after 1 dec 2008 the TX can accept 6 to any servo number if PPM signal have under 6ch it will be refused. SOFTWARE FUNCTIONS RX The behaviour of the Rx in case of an interference/failsafe: In case of a bad data pakage the last good will be kept and an error counter incremented, when a good pakage is received the servo positions will be updated, and error counter zeroed, If error counter > the max alllowed 45, it will recall the stored failsafe settings. Failsafe will be activated if TX is turned off, or if out of range/gets bads for 1 sec, (22mS x 45 = 1sec) it will resume to normal if signal comes back. Servo outputs are programmable in the case of a failsafe just like a conventional PCM RX. (read about sw functions tx) Diversity is incorporated with an antenna switch, after the two seperate LNA low noise amplifiers, the RX will check both antennas for best signal during some unused bytes and use the best signal for the important data package, this is why the "bad" antenna LED still lit up weakly, this is due to the tiny check pulse. RADIOSYSTEM This system uses wide band frequency hopping in the two free ISM bands 433 and 444MHz. To make this system most secure we have made a "Band A" and "Band B" frequency sets, they can opperate on the same field at the same time with 100% performance. (it is possible to use any frequency sets in the 410 to 450mhz band on request) I keep track on all customers frequency sets, so you can order more receivers or transmitters that can be made to be compatible or not compatible depending on your needs. RANGE The calculated line of sight range is 100km if no noise on the band used. To give you a good safety margin stay within 5km (with 500mW standard version and little whip) the 7W booster give you at least 15km range with whip antenna. both ranges mentioned can be tribbled or even more, if you use a larger and better antenna or even a directional type on the TX side. RANGECHECK can be done just like conventional RC systems, in this case simply unmount the TX antenna, then expect 4-10 meters of range, then check you have same (short) range with motor on/off, and with video cams and video transmitters on/off, if no change, then mount TX antenna again and fly. INSTALLATION The TX box is a small metal case 58mm wide, 72 mm long,27 mm height, it is supposed to be mounted on your convertional RC unit. but it can also be mounted some where else using a long cable for the power and PPM signal. The RX is installed just like any conventional RX, the two RX antennas is supposed to be mounted so at least one of them can always be seen from ground, mount the two antennas 90 degree angle to each other. If receiver antennas are mounted horizontal in plane - then longest range is also achived holding tx antenna horizontal and vice versa. it could be smart to mount one antenna vertical and one horizontal if possible. it is ok to cut the antenna wire and solder (same length) piano wire so vertical mounting is straight while flying. KNOWN LIMITATIONS Landscape variations and noise polution in the flight area is known to shorten the range, Use at least 1/10 of the distsance as height. for example at 3km distance stay 300meters up to get full range. Standard transmitter with 500mW and the standard quaterwave antenna will give you a 3-5km range, in normal city area, may be much longer in areas with no noise polution.
