2004 July Crete, Chania AirModelling Club visit |
Later same Saturday 24th I was invited to visit the workshop of another member of the Σ.Α.Χ his name is also Emmanuel
The fellow in the red T-shirt is Agapitos I visit him later same day. In the light blue T-shirt is Apostoles
See the home invented wheel braking system of the front wheel using a servo to pull the string, most right picture
if you click on the first picture and note the large starter, it is taken from an old 2CV car !
The homemade smoke system uses a 12V sprinkler pump running at 6V, also from the same 2CV
He have got more than 100 square meters and a turning lathe so he can make a lot of parts him self.
here is another homemade plane using 3 metanol engines with glowplug power supply onboard, and a nice homemade F16 Agapitos design
The red biplane is a real killer I just fell in love with it at first sight !!
Emmanuel had so many planes, in all kinds and all sizes ! I forgot to count them all, but it was MANY !!
He is also a Helicopter lover, I can't remember if it was 5 or more ready to fly he had, and a few more on the table for repair.
This LARGE plane was something !! about 2.5 x 2.5 meters and looks like a normal trainer from a long distance
This plane is the one with the homemade servo controlled front wheel brake system
Compare the plane size with the people, planes are a bit bigger than I am used to :-)
Check out the ducted fan on that large F16 what a size !! The engine was modifyed with additional heatsink to handle the high revolutions.
Any where I looked I saw planes and planes and stuff for RC hobby, nice place. The wings was carefully stored in bubble plastic.
Here is the plane with the homemade smoke system, the hole in the exaust pipe is 0.5mm diameter, note the servo that control the micro switches for the pump.
Here we are at Agapitos work shop, also impressive in size. There are planes all over the walls and any surface was filled with planes and stuff for planes.
I think it is ok to call his 3 x 3 meters Extra for a real master project. See the side rudder is driven by 4 servos in parallel, FUTABA S9303
Everything is homemade using own molds, first model was made using traditional glasfiber fuselage,
but it was heawy and soft, so now he is using honey-comb fiber material WOW !!
Look at the floor the mold for the fuselage, using compressed air and vacum, he can make the result just as perfect as the mold.
Here is the first 3x3 meter model made using normal thin glasfiber, see the size. Last picture is the mold for the side rudder.
